Our People

CEIG is a membership organisation with a governing board drawn from member companies who are leaders in the clean energy investment sector. Our policy, advocacy and governance team operates across the country bringing deep expertise and experience in public policy, energy market design, advocacy and corporate governance.

Our Board

John Martin

Board Chair
John has over thirty years of experience in the energy, infrastructure and investment banking sectors. Prior to joining Windlab, John was Chief Executive of the ASX listed New Energy Solar and LSE listed US Solar Fund Plc. In this role John lead the creation of a diversified portfolio of large scale solar power plants in the United States and Australia with total capacity of over 1.2 GWDC . Before establishing these renewable energy investment funds, John had a long career running corporate advisory and banking with a focus on the renewable energy, infrastructure and resources sectors while working for firms such as ABN Amro, Zurich, NAB and PwC.

Allison Hawke

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR
Allison is the General Manager of Development at Atmos Renewables. Allison has over 15 years’ of experience, specialising in the development, delivery, and advocacy for large-scale renewable energy projects across Australia. Allison has previously worked at Acciona Energy and ESCO Pacific and has held governance roles at My Net Zero and Indigo Power.

Daniel Beaver

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Daniel is an Executive Director at Foresight Australia (previously ICG) and has significant experience in infrastructure investment across M&A, debt, development, asset management, and board representation. Daniel holds a Masters of Science (First Class) from Oxford University, and degrees in commerce and law from Melbourne University. Daniel is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) member.

Laura Caspari

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Laura Caspari is Managing Director of Renewables and Batteries at ENGIE Australia, responsible for leading ENGIE’s renewables business in Australia. Laura brings extensive international experience across renewables, commercial strategy, and large-scale acquisitions. Previously, she held senior leadership roles at ENGIE North America, where she led the signing of 1.2GW of renewables power purchase agreements in 2023 and oversaw acquisitions of more than 10GW of renewable energy projects between 2022 and 2023. Laura has been recognised as a Top 100 North American Power Leader in both 2021 and 2022.

Matthew Dickie

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Matthew has 18 years’ industry experience, across Federal Government, State Government and private sector renewable development. He is currently the APAC Head of Regulatory Affairs at global utility, RWE, which is developing to build and operate a portfolio of onshore wind, solar, battery and offshore wind projects across Australia. Matthew also serves on the board of the Global Wind Energy Council, as well as RWE project companies. A recovering lawyer, he is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Rupert Doney

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Rupert brings over a decade of experience in energy policy, market design, and regulatory reform. In his current role as Head of Energy Policy at Transgrid, he leads major policy development and contributes to shaping the regulatory environment that underpins Australia’s energy transition. He is also an industry member of the External Advisory Group for the Faculty of Science, University of Newcastle. Rupert has delivered major industry reforms at the Australian Energy Market Commission, and he holds a PhD in Human Geography.

Werther Esposito

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Leading Potentia Energy (formerly Enel Green Power Australia) since January 2021, Werther is a senior executive with extensive experience across the renewables sector. Werther joined Enel Group in 2010 working across international mergers and acquisitions, leading Enel’s business development across North Africa and the Middle East and then as Managing Director for Enel Green Power in Morocco. Prior to joining Enel Group, Werther held roles within the Italian public and private sectors, focussed on business development, as well as the United Nations.    

Mitch King

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Mitch founded Lighthouse Infrastructure in 2007 as a specialist infrastructure fund manager to provide investors with access to high quality sustainable infrastructure assets. As a Managing Director of Lighthouse, Mitch is responsible for the investment process and management of the business. Mitch is also a member of Lighthouse’s Audit, Risk & Compliance and Investment Committees. Mitch has over 30 years’ experience specialising in infrastructure asset management and finance and has acquired, managed and divested infrastructure assets through numerous market cycles and events.

David Krsevan

Non-Executive Director
David is Canadian Solar's General Manager (Energy) in Australia. He has also previously worked at Infigen Energy, NAB and KPMG, focusing on risk advisory, energy trading and energy markets.

Our Team

Richie Merzian

CEO
Richie brings almost two decades of experience in climate and energy policy and advocacy. Previously, he directed the international work of the Smart Energy Council and was a lead United Nations climate negotiator for the Australian Government. He is a leading voice in driving reforms and fostering support for the clean energy transition.

Nick Aberle

Director of Policy and Advocacy
Nick is a respected strategist, advocate and campaigner with 15 years’ experience across Australia’s energy and climate sector. He has held senior roles at the Clean Energy Council and Environment Victoria, and has also consulted through Strategy Partner Advisory, advising NGOs, philanthropic foundations and renewable energy companies on policy and strategy. At the CEC, Nick led major work on the challenges facing the energy transition, with a strong focus on planning and environmental reform and strengthening social licence for large‑scale renewable energy projects.

Kelly Berghella

Membership & Engagement Director
With over 20 years of experience working across various marketing, campaign, and communication roles across various levels of government and not-for-profits, Kelly brings significant experience to her role at CEIG. In past roles, Kelly has worked in Campaign Manager roles at the Department of Education and Hepatitis Australia, leading campaigns that aim to change perceptions and behaviours.
